a friend of mine once told me she rarely felt beautiful growing up because of her skin color. She was dark skinned and unfortunately in this imperfect world there exists something called colorism among black people where lighter complexion is considered more beautiful than dark skinned people and that really can destroy someones self esteem especially that of young women and girls so i decided to change that narrative and show people that everyone is beautiful and that diversity is what adds to the beauty.
I'm proud of my heritage because Im proud because i come from a place with so much diversity from its cultures, to amazing music, amazing people from all kinds of backgrounds, really good food and a place that gives people a sense of belonging.
Biggest misconception people haveOne misconception i can say is that many people i have met who aren't from Africa assume that Kenya is unsafe, dangerous and not welcoming which is obviously not the case.
Why do you think Diversity matters? It matters because of representation. everyone wants to be heard and seen. we unfortunately have lived in a world where we africans have been portrayed negatively by the media from the news and even in movies and tv shows and showing our side of the story, culture and everything in between would help young children grow up in a world where they can relate to, be proud of their heritage and love who they are because they see the positive side of it.
